Thankful Heritage Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization that uses a spectacular traveling black history museum full of African American artifacts and workshops to teach black history. Touring the museum is like taking a trip down memory lane for the seniors and an opportunity for the youth to see many of the things concerning black history that their parents, grandparents and teachers have told them about. This is truly an experience everyone will remember forever.

Founded in 1993 by Effley Dean Howell Sr., this is an educational and entertaining exhibit that goes back to the African tradition of Griots ( the telling of the village (family) history). After studying and working for many years as a historian,14.jpg genealogist and black memorabilia collector, Effley assembled this unique traveling museum , with inter-active workshops to increase the knowledge of black history in the school system, churches and in the diverse culture that the United States has become.

Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the Father of Negro History, stated ; if a race does not record its history, then another race will take credit for their accomplishments. Real diversity in teaching history does not put down any race but tells the truth about all cultures which creates mutual respect and harmony among all people. This is the goal of Thankful Heritage Inc..

The museum has 12 distinctive areas to explore that covers history from the beginning of civilization until the present time plus many of the black collectibles that were derogatory at the beginning of this century but are in demand by collectors worldwide today.

Twelve inter-active workshops are offered that educate entertain and challenge your knowledge of Negro folk art, black history, family traditions and appraisals of black collectibles. these 1 hour sessions include a question and answer period.

 

A family oriented membership package has 3 clubs to entertain everyone.

  1. A social club with a fashion show and look alike contest.

  2. A travel club with trips to historic African American sites

  3. A book club with monthly meeting

The museum has an archive of the Journal of Negro History 1916 - present, the first 50 years of Ebony and Jet Magazines. Other major magazine covers and articles are included to aid in the research and education for everyone who want to know more about this great river of knowledge call Black History
